There are generally three types of pigment refill consumables for 3D printing pens on the market, namely PCL consumables, PLA consumables, and ABS consumables. These three consumables have different prices, performance and advantages, and the differences between them are still quite obvious.
PCL material. The melting point is around 60°C. It is a biodegradable material, non-toxic and odorless. At the same time, after adding pigments, the PCL material is also brighter after shaping, and the impact resistance is better than that of PLA material. However, PCL material is not resistant to high temperatures, and even hot water at 5 or 60°C may soften the PCL material and cause deformation. However, it is relatively simple to modify the details of the work, and hot water can be used directly to assist in the modification. The consumables of Xiao Maliang and Magic Cat 3D printing pens use this material. It is more suitable for children to use and safe.
PLA material. The melting point is above 150℃, and it is also a biodegradable material with good strength. However, compared with general plastics, it is more brittle, not impact-resistant and not flexible enough. It cannot rebound when it falls, and the weak parts are easy to break, but it is more suitable for making some small handicrafts. The color of PLA material is much brighter than ABS material, and there is no need to worry about shrinkage when cooling. PLA is non-toxic and has a smell when heated, but the smell is more comfortable. However, PLA material is prone to nib clogging, especially metal nibs, so pay more attention to cleaning. Dewang's pens are only available in this type. 3D pens using this type of consumables are more suitable for adult beginners or adult handicraft masters who like to make small crafts.

ABS material. The melting point is above 200℃, and it is very easy to shrink when cooling. If the temperature is not well controlled and cannot be averaged, it is likely to cause the model to shrink, deform, and warp; in addition, although ABS material is non-toxic in most cases, it has a strong smell when heated, so it is best to use it in a well-ventilated room. ABS is very plastic, and the strength of the model is also good. Although the color is not as bright as the other two materials, it is resistant to high temperature and impact. Sanlu, Mairui's printing pen uses this consumable material, which is more suitable for adult hand-made masters who like to make large works or works that require flexibility.
